The Grassroots Political Tour of Jerusalem provides the strory of the city from a Palestinian perspective, and describes the political reality in Jerusalem under the Israeli occupation.
The tour starts with a short review of the history of Palestine and Jerusalem since the beginning of the Zionist project, starting from the mid 19th century until 1967. It then focuses on the different Israeli policies designed since the occupation of the eastern part of the city in 1967 in order to displace Palestinians from Jerusalem. These policies include: the revocation of legal status, land confiscation, home demolition, settlements, the suffocation of the Palestinian economy, controlling the education system, intentional underdevelopment and more.
The tour also provides comments on the existing international aid systems. International Aid does not only fail to help the Palestinian struggle for liberation and self-determination, but also limits it and imposes additional obstacles to it.
We finish with examples of inspiring grassroots initiatives in Palestinian communities in Jerusalem that are creatively resisting displacement and disempowerment, followed by a short discussion and recommendations.
For the last three years, and in order to break free of limiting funding systems, Grassroots al-Quds has been building a model of self-sufficiency, and generating income from our political tour is an integral part of this model. In addition, we receive lots of requests for tours every year, and do not have the capacity to fulfill them all. Therefore, we give tours to groups of 6 people and more, or alternatively for a minimum price of $250 for a “private tour” (in order to stick to our financial plans).
If you are interested in our tour and you are less than 6 people, and cannot pay the minimum price, please write an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org. If we have tours scheduled around the dates you requested, we will ask the group whether you can join them.
If you are a group of 6 people or more, please sign up to the tour here.
